Vanitas

Vanitas translates to All is Vanity.  In Latin it means emptiness.  Vanitas is a reference to a style of art that is associated with Memento Mori, a reminder of mortality.

Skulls are a common image that reflect both artistic themes; Vanitas & Memento Mori & reference the temporary nature of life.  The artist Noah Scalin is the King of Skulls for his usage of skulls in much of his art.  For him, these images are a positive reminder to live each day to the fullest!

His newest art collection entitled “All Is Vanity” is comprised of 100 4×4″ paintings.  The pic above is #32 of the 100 paintings.  Pieces from the collection will be on display through July 31st at Clippi Headren located at 929 Myers St. (Woody’s Auto Service building).  Come out & meet the artist for his opening reception this Friday from May 11th from 7-9pm at Clippi Headren!
